Installing Security Cameras in Texas Requires State License

by Security Consultant Pros

Security Consultant Pros and its installers are licensed by the Texas Department of Public Safety Private Security Bureau to install alarms, cameras and access control (License B18260). Many individuals aren’t aware that it is a Texas state law that requires alarm companies to have a “B” license to install cameras (which the State of Texas considers an alarm) or the company in violation faces up to a $10k fine per occurrence and the person hiring them can face up to a $10k fine per occurrence for hiring an unlicensed company to install security cameras (this doesn’t apply to installing your own cameras which is allowed). The state of Texas requires all camera installers to get licensed and insured with a background check to do their job and to include the company B license on all of their advertising. It’s under Texas Occupation code 1702.002 and you can check an individual or company’s license at https://tops.portal.texas.gov/psp-self-service/search/index
